What is the Cross-Catalog Searching Center?
   The Cross-Catalog Searching Center provides a single search for contents from all catalogs in SIRIS. This search center provides guided navigation with positive and negative limit options in the left column on the search result screens. Simply click on the limit options available and be guided to what you are looking for.

   You may use Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT as part of your search. Operators MUST be entered in capital letters. Multiple words without any operators are assumed as using the AND operator. Parentheses and quotation marks can also be used.
Examples: Painting OR sculpture
Korean war
"civil rights"
(immigration OR migrant) AND labors

How to apply "Limit Options"?

Limit Options appear in the left hand column. Clicking a term will apply that limit to your search results and will return only those records that contain that term. The "-" button will return all records that do NOT contain that term.

The Limits you select will appear in the "Search Information" box at the top of the left column. Clicking the "X" icon next to a Limit will remove that limit from your results.
Click "Expand Filter List" to see all available limits within that filter grouping.
Click "Collapse Filter List" to return to the short limit list within that filter grouping.

What is a "List View"?
List View is one way to display your result set. This is the default view for search results. List View gives you concise information about each record in your results. Clicking on the "Title" of a record in the List View will deliver you a fuller view of that record. Toggle between views by clicking the Tab of the view you desire. There are currently 2 views: List View and Grid View.

What is a "Grid View"?
Grid View is one way to display your result set. You may find the Grid View more desirable for displaying images. Grid View gives you a thumbnail or graphic symbol if available and the title for each record in your results. Clicking on an image thumbnail will give you a larger view of the image or play a media file. Clicking on the "Title" of a record will deliver you a fuller view of that record. Toggle between views by clicking the Tab of the view you desire. There are currently 2 views: Grid View and List View.

What is "Search History"?
Search History displays an accumulative list of your previous searches. Search History tab allows you to rerun the searches listed. If you close your browser or exit the site for a period of time, you will lose your Search History.

What is "Relevancy"?
Relevancy is a based on an internal algoritm that will give a higher ranking to records that contain more occurrences of the search terms. Relevancy sort will position the highest ranked records first in your results. You may also choose to sort by title or toggle between the two.
