History of the Smithsonian Bibliography

The Bibliography on the History of the Smithsonian Institution describes published and unpublished materials (books, journal and newspaper articles, dissertations, reports, lectures, and correspondence) about the history of the Smithsonian Institution. The bibliography is maintained by the staff, interns and volunteers of the Institutional History Division, Smithsonian Institution Archives. This bibliography contains citations to the major publications and documents on the history of the Smithsonian, but is not (yet) comprehensive and includes mostly English language materials. Citations in this bibliography are not necessarily located in the Smithsonian Institution Libraries or Smithsonian Institution Archives. Therefore, call numbers have not been provided. Each entries consists of a title, publication information and index terms; some entries contain abstracts of and/or explanatory notes about the publication.

Additional information on the history of the Smithsonian can be found in another SIRIS database, the Chronology of the history of the Smithsonian which contains entries for significant events in the history of the Smithsonian, from the life of James Smithson to the present.
