Christo speaks of his childhood in Bulgaria; his studies at the Fine Arts Academy in Sofia, and the Vienna Fine Arts Academy in Austria; his interest in the theater and films; working as a portrait painter; Leo Castelli's legal assistance; his "Valley Curtain" and wrapped works; his expenses and documentation for projects; French vs. American artists.
Christo (1935-) is an environmental sculptor and conceptual artist. Full name Christo Java[t]cheff.
These interviews are part of the Archives of American Art Oral History Program, started in 1958 to document the history of the visual arts in the United States, primarily through interviews with artists, historians, dealers, critics and others.
