The scattered papers of painter Lillian Genth measure 0.2 linear feet and date from 1904 to 1968. Found are personal business records, exhibition photographs, a sales ledger, and a mixed media scrapbook.
The collection is available on 35mm microfilm reel 3090 at Archives of American Art offices and through interlibrary loan. Researchers should note that the arrangement of the material described in the container inventory does not reflect the arrangement of the collection on microfilm.
Lillian Genth (1876-1953) was an impressionist painter in New York City, New York. She is known for her landscape paintings featuring female nudes produced early in her career. Later, Genth focused on paintings inspired by her travels. She exhibited extensively throughout her career and died in New York City in 1953.
Mrs. William H. Bender, was a friend of Lillian Genth, executrix of her estate, and collector of Genth's works. She donated Genth's papers to the Archives of American Art in 1976.

The collection received a preliminary level of processing upon receipt and was microfilmed on reel 3909. The collection was processed, and a finding aid prepared by Jayna Josefson in 2022 with support from the Smithsonian American Women's History Initiative.
Personal business records consist of a royalty contract with the Detroit Publishing Company, 1916 and a receipt for a gift of paintings made by Mrs. William H. Bender, Jr. to the High Museum of Art. Photographs are of a memorial exhibition at the Bronxville Public Library from 1958 and also includes an exhibition catalog. A sales ledger dates from 1904 to 1930 and gives information on the purchaser, title, date, and cost of Genth's paintings. A dismantled mixed media scrapbook consists of a resume, clippings, magazine articles, reproductions of Genth's paintings, and typescripts of poetry by Samuel Walter Foss.
