Stephen Mueller (1947-2011) was a painter in New York, New York. Mueller painted in an abstract and increasingly symbolic and spiritually infused style. He is associated with late color field painting, bringing the style into the 21st century with his large, colorful canvases.
The Stephen Mueller papers measure 1230 gigabytes and date from circa 1990-2010. At the core of the material are digital photographs of Mueller's paintings dating from 1969-2010. The images provide a method for closely studying Mueller's work that was adapted from Color Field painting.
This collection is open for research. Access to original papers requires an appointment and is limited to the Archives' Washington, D.C. Research Center.
