The Kenneth and Miriam Stubbs papers regarding E. Ambrose Webster measure 0.9 linear feet and date from 1911-2007. A student at Webster's summer school in Provincetown, Kenneth Stubbs maintained a friendship with Webster and collected some of his original papers, including many handwritten copies of Webster's lectures, notes, an address book, photographs, letters, lists, and reproductions of artwork. Research files maintained by Kenneth, and later by his wife Miriam, include correspondence, exhibition catalogs for exhibitions of Webster's work, notes, photographs of artwork, and a sound recording of a radio interview of Miriam Stubbs and Tony Vevers discussing Webster.

Biographical / Historical
Kenneth Stubbs (1907-1967) was an American artist in Washington, D.C. Stubbs was a student of E. Ambrose Webster at the Webster Art School, Provincetown, Massachusetts, in the summer of 1931 and 1934. He married his wife Miriam in 1948 and they had a summer home in Provincetown and were members of the Provincetown Art Association.

Scope and Contents
E. Ambrose Webster's original papers, compiled by Kenneth Stubbs, include handwritten drafts and transcripts of lectures given by Webster at the Webster Art School, as well as lists, photographs, and published reproductions of Webster's artwork. Also found are Webster's address book, three photographs of Webster and his family, a photograph of students standing outside of the Webster Art School, and several school publications. Letters found here were written by E. Ambrose Webster and his wife to Mrs. Frank Comins, and primarily concern the topics of Webster's art school lectures. Researchers should note that some of the drafts of lectures may be transcripts written by Stubbs, Mrs. Webster, or another third party.

Research files include correspondence and exhibition catalogs for exhibitions of Webster's work at East End Gallery, Babcock Galleries, and the Provincetown Art Association Museum. Also found are Kenneth Stubbs' correspondence with E. Ambrose Webster and his wife, and with their nephew Karl F. Rodgers. Additionally there are notes and catalogs annotated by Kenneth Stubbs and news clippings about Webster Art School. Research files compiled by Miriam Stubbs after Kenneth's death include photographs and reproductions of Webster's artwork, one sound recording of a radio interview of Miriam Stubbs and Tony Vevers discussing E. Ambrose Webster, exhibition documentation, and reminiscences from two of Webster's former students: Mariana Manning and Rosamund Vanderbeck.
