Copied from Strachey, "The Historie of Travaile into Virginia...," 1849, and Smith, "Voyages."
Contents: 1) Powhatan-English cards, typed in blue, presumably compiled from Strachey by J. N. B. Hewitt (Hewitt given as collector on old catalog card). Interfiled in this section are cards in the handwriting of A. S. Gatschet, containing place-names and other expressions, some but not all attributed to "J. Smith, Voyages; presumably all handwritten cards are from Smith. 2) English-Powhatan cards (Powhatan first, but alphabetized according to English meaning), typed in black, presumably compiled from Strachey by Hewitt. Interfiled in this section are a few handwritten cards, mostly of the same words as the typed cards; handwriting is unidentified, and cards contain no indication of the source.
