Three portraits of Native Americans of the Southwest, probably Navajo or Mescalero, and one image of two Dakota people. The portraits were likely made at Fort Sumner and may have been made by Artsman. The image of Dakota individuals is probably a commercial photograph.
Colonel Gus Artsman was an army officer who served at Ft. Sumner, New Mexico, around 1864-1866.
