Archives Center Scrapbook Collection
Collection is arranged into one series.
Miscellaneous late nineteenth/early twentieth century scrapbooks containing postcards, trade cards, greeting cards, decals, and other ephemera. Included are: (1) trade cards for thread, tobacco, barbers, sewing machines, toiletries and shaving products, tobacco, undertakers and patent medicine; (2) images of women, children, pets, and flowers; (3) greeting cards celebrating Christmas, birthdays, Halloween, and St. Patrick's Day; and (4) postcards from the United States and around the world. Some of the items in the scrapbooks are comical or picturesque. Most of the scrapbooks were created by women. Also included are several twentieth century diaries, including two travel diaries written by women.
Collection items available for reproduction, but the Archives Center makes no guarantees concerning copyright restrictions. Other intellectual property rights may apply. Archives Center cost-recovery and use fees may apply when requesting reproductions.

Includes advertising cards and greeting card images (cut scraps from greeting cards) of flowers, animals and children from Washington, DC and Pennsylvania.
Images of children, flowers, young women, dogs and cats, vegetables, and African Americans printed on heavy weight paper, probably all or most from advertising cards.
Advertising cards with images of animals, young women, and sewing machiness (domestic, new home and household).
The first two pages contain postcards featuring Mark Twain. All of the others are postcards of California locations. The scrapbook is labeled "Califor" on the spine.

Blanche Seale's Hubt's stories about "Little Brown Koko" cut from
Includes a variety of postcards. Some are of locales, mostly in Pennsylvania. Many are greeting cards for various holidays including St. Patrick's Day, Anniversary of Philadelphia founding (1908), Halloween and Thanksgiving. There are a few postcard photographs of friends.
Many visiting cards and trade cards and scraps featuring colorful illustrations including dogs and cats. Also included are religious items and biblical quotations, poems, cut-outs an stickers.
A great variety of colorful trade card cut-outs, scraps, and stickers featuring plants, flowers, animals, people, and cartoons. Many types of merchandise are representated including thread, patent medicines, tobacco, seeds, soap an toiletries for Boston, Providence and numerous other towns in New England.
Scrapbook of Lewistown, Schuykill County, Pennsylvania. Decals or transfers in a great varietty of colors and styles. These are apparently sample sheets; each has one or more labels bearing a number for each style shown. Subjects are plants, animals, scenes, and people, including a few historic persons. A great many decorative elements and borders are present, many of these are gilded. Sizes range from less then 1" to 16". Some of the page versos have drawings in pencil and/or charcoal.
This scrapbook has cloth pages with applied colorful cut-outs. Ranging in size from about 1" to 14' in size. The subjects include birds, flowers, flags, babies, animals, people, vehicles, fruit, vegetables, scenes, and cartoons.

Colorful pcitures and cut-outs of people of all ages, flowers, plants and animals. A few greeting cards and few trade cards.
Postcards of cities and scenes throughout Canada make up the bulk of this book. The last few pages contain cards from Cuba and Mexico. There is also and a letter to Miss Somers from a friend in Guadalajara describing a bullfight.
Colorful trade cards for a variety of businesses and products. Also cut-outs and a few greeting cards. Incudes subjects--flowers, anials and people. A few items bear messages in Hebrew. The last two pages feature flags of the world. The book is inscribed: "Presented to Rob't Lee Kernwood, October 10, 1882." an "Thru to his wonderful niece Therese Herman Rothschild February 26, 1919.

The first few pages contain unusual photo cards of people in colonial and Indian costume, apparently enacting a historic pageant. These are inscribed "Bingham Studio" and have "Episode" numbers on the back. Most of the scrapbook contains scenic cards of Vermont. However a number of photo cards of President Coolidge are found on pages near the end.

Postcards, the makority from New Hampshire, especially Tilton. Also other New England states and Colorado. Other cards are holiday reeting or humorous cards, mostly featuring photos of courting couples. Page two of the scrapbook has three cards featuring photos of Lindbergh, his plane, and a crowd scene incribed "7/25/27 and "Lindy" on the back. The scrapbook is labeled "N.H." and "Odds and Ends."

This scrapbook is a catalog of the Christmas and New Year's cards produced by a British Company from 1882-1883. It consists of 121 pages with samples of eah design. Attached to the first page is a letter and complete list of contents. The scrapbook is stamped "Norcross, Inc. 244 Madison Avenue, New York, New York." Subjects include women and children, birds, plants, and flowers amd biblical figures.

Postcards of towns and cities, historic locarions and scenic areas of Maine.
Newspaper clippings pasted into a book "Johns Manville Service to Industry." The creator seems to have resided in Marion, Ohio as there is much material about local persons, civic and sporting events and homicides. There is also much material on national events and celebrities including presidents, the Lindbergh kidnapping, dirigible disaster, Winnie Ruth Judd's trial, Wiley posts round the world flight and a number of sports figures. A number of poems are also present.
Postcards that include many scenes in Indiana and Illinois as well as other locations throughout the United States. There are numerous holiday cards, humorous and novelty cards and cardsfeaturing photographs of the senders. the creator is a young woman of college age.
Primarily postcards designed as birthday greetings sent to Annie Martin Adams and her husband Leonard "Len." There are also a number of scenic and photographic cards. The scrapbook is inscribed "To Annie with love from [Len? Lena?] March 30, 1920.
Small lined red cloth notebook with handwritten account of Lois Teal's trip by railroad to California and visits to various locations in the state and Seattle. It continues through her return trip to Chicgo and contains her observations of people and places. Teal was about 30 years old at the time. Teal visits: San Diego, San Francisco World's Fair, a balloon trip, sororities at the University of California, Berkeley, a visit to Muir Woods, the United States Mint and many observations of fellow travelers.
Small black leather loose-leaf notebook contains a travel diary of Lois Teal's trip to Scandinavia. She describes the Atlantic crossing to Denmark aboard the
Postcards of Massachusetts historic sites and places of interest featuring a large number of towns in the state. Many civic buildings, churches, schools, and factories are included as well as parks, bridges and beaches. Scenic areas such as Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and the Berkshires are included. The pages are very fragile
The majority consits of colorful trade cards in many sizes featuring attractive or humorous illustrations. A few photographic postcards are included as well. The scrapbook itself is a ledger dating from the 1850s, apparently from a business dealing in ship's supplies and hardware. A number of its pages have been pasted upon and are readable.
Decorative and colorful cards and stickers in a wide variety of sizes and shapes. Most are tradesmens cards, a few are greeting cards. There are a few clippings of poems. One photograph is included possibly of the creator of the scrapbook. Scrapbook possibly document Memphis, Tennessee. The pages are very fragile.
Most of this material is in the form of newspaper clippings in Iron Gate, Virginia. A great portion of it concerns George Washington; Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Lincoln and Edison are also included. Interspersed are many local death notices and events, jokes, and odd bits of information. A few colored illustrations and Christmas cards decorate the pages. The last entries concern the Lindbergh kidnapping.
This large scrapbook contains postcards and souvenirs such as letterhead, travel guides, amd maps collected during trips taken by Mrs. Kendrick in 1934, 1935, 1936 and 1937.
This very large scrapbook contains postcards from states ranging westward from Iowa through Washington and from Alaska. A list of states represented and the number of cards from each is inluded.

Cartoons and jokes cut from magazines and newspapers. Many feature soldiers in World War II. There are a few loose color illustrations, possibly from calendars and two comic valentines.

A lined composition book, inscribed on the back "Gertrude Curtis. Mar. 27/94. Stetson University." It contains yearly lists of Christmas gifts and to whom they were given. Bewteen 100 and 150 persons received gifts each year.
A wide variety of newspaper clippings including short arrticles, a few poems and great many small advertisements. These are too varied for classification and seem to be from the early 19th century. Some of the pages bear handwritten lists of newspapers. These are dated as early as 1704 and as late as 1894.
Very colorful trade cards, stickers and cu-outs featuring flowers, women, animals and scenes. The cover is emboseed in black and gold.
A great variety of brightly colored cards, stickers, scraps, and line engravng depicting numerous subjects. These include flowers, fruit, animals, scenes, and people. Some of the people are historic, litary or exotic. Some of the cards are trade or greeting cards. The line engravings are probably from magazines. Many trade cards in German.
This album has an "Art Nouveau" cover and contains postcards primarily from Hawaii showing Native Hawaiians surfing, processing sugar cane, rice fields, beach scenes, volcanos, and hula dancing. A few postcards from New York's Fort Slocum, Panama abd the Philippines.

[Large dark green album marked "Post Cards" and with a European scene on the front. Consists of primarily postcards of Boston with iages of buildings (churches, schools, hospitals), the subway, zoo, light houses, and roller coasters. Several maritime cards including views of the Charlestown Shipyard. Appears that cards were sent by same Harvard?] student as the cards contained in Box 42 to his family in Woodsville, New Hampshire.

A few images of early airplanes and a balloon. Postcards also depict the Charles River, canoeing and tourist images of Wellesley, Framingham, Concord, Haverhill, Gloucester, Beverly, Marblehead and Salem.
