Smithsonian Institution Archives, Accession 15-314, Judith K. Zilczer Papers
This accession consists of materials documenting the research and correspondence of Judith Zilczer. Zilczer was employed by the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in various capacities from 1974-2003, ultimately serving as Curator of Paintings from 1992-2003. Many of the files were compiled while Zilczer was co-curating the exhibition "Visual Music: 1905-2005" which was presented in 2005 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angles, and, later that year, at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. A few files document the development of and responses to the exhibition. Other files document Zilczer's research concerning Arthur Garfield Dove, Robert Coady, John Quinn, Raymond Duchamp-Villon, early modernism, and Arthur B. Davies as well as her early research into visual music. Materials include correspondence; photocopies of articles and primary sources; clippings; images of artwork; exhibition proposals; lecture scripts; manuscripts; notes; and related materials. Some materials are in electronic format.
