This accession consists of the records of Dwight Blocker Bowers, Curator, documenting his exhibition planning, development and production activities in the Division of Culture and the Arts, including records that date from when he was public programs specialist, 1995-1997, and historian of theater and film, 1997-2012, in the Division of Cultural History; director of the Division of Museum Programs, 1989-1995; and research specialist in the Department of Public Programs at the National Museum of American History. The records document the following exhibitions, some of which are proposals: "Red, Hot, and Blue: A Salute to American Musicals"; "Voices of the American Musical"; "Leaps and No Bounds"; "There's No Business Like Show Business: Irving Berlin's Centennial"; "America Plays: Sport, Entertainment, and Music"; "It's Saturday Night!"; "America's Voices, America's Stories"; "Muppets and Mechanisms: Jim Henson's Legacy"; "Ella Fitzgerald: First Lady of Song"; "Puppetry in America"; and "Skitch Henderson: A Man and His Music."
Materials include correspondence, memoranda, and notes; proposals; budget summaries; meeting agendas and minutes; scripts; floor plans and design drawings; brochures; photographs and slides; corporate sponsorship information; exhibition schedules; reports; object lists; and supporting documentation.
