Robert H. McCauley (1913-1979), a herpetologist, spent most of his professional career at the National Institutes of Health. These papers document his herpetological research and include correspondence with professional colleagues primarily concerning his research on the reptiles of Washington, D.C. and Maryland; a diary kept during his service with the United States Public Health Service during World War II; and newspaper clippings, publications, photographs, and 35mm color slides mostly concerning snakes.
