Richard Brooke Roberts (1910-1980), physicist and biophysicist, participated in the experiment in which the splitting of the uranium atom was first observed in 1939. At the time, he was a Fellow at the Carnegie Institution in Washington, D.C.
This notebook contains Roberts' laboratory data and notes for the period September 1938 to April 1939, including notes on the atom-splitting experiment. The volume also contains a letter from Roberts to his father, giving the background of the experiment.
