Smithsonian Institution Archives, Record Unit 7448, Collected Records and Papers on Entomology
This collection consists of miscellaneous records and papers created by entomologists Herbert Spencer Barber, Henry Guernsey Hubbard, Charles Valentine Riley, and Eugene Amandus Schwarz. For biographical information on Barber, Hubbard, Riley, and Schwarz, see Record Units 7103, 7107, 7076, and 7104. These papers represent work done for the United States Department of Agriculture at the United States National Museum. Included in this record unit are correspondence and memoranda; notes; photographs of maps and insect illustrations; record books of information on specimen purchases, loans, and exchanges; and typed and hand-written drafts of entomological manuscripts. A large part of the collection concerns Barber and Schwarz's studies of luminous insects, i.e., Lampyridae and Phengodidae. Also included are two of Hubbard's field notebooks and photographs taken during his trip to the western United States and British Columbia.
